Dear Friends,
We have concluded another incredible summer at Recreation Unlimited and we wanted to share a few thoughts with you regarding this wonderful camp experience. This summer we saw campers with fragile X syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders and many other physical and developmental disabilities achieve more than they had ever dreamed possible like gaining new friendships, being away from home, climbing the Alpine Tower, dancing, rowing a canoe, swimming, or just roasting marshmallows on an open camp fire.
These dreams are possible due to the unique accessibility of the Recreation Unlimited campus and the careful individualized planning by our Recreation Unlimited team. Individuals with disabilities have the rare opportunity to try something new and to create memories that will last a lifetime. As an additional benefit, a Recreation Unlimited camp gives parents and caregivers the opportunity for a well-deserved respite.
This summer alone, we served close to 600 campers during our 7 weeks of residential camps and 5 weeks of day camps. Due to growing demands and space limitations we also experienced our largest wait list for camp. With your continuing support, we will grow our campus and have the opportunity to serve more individuals with disabilities through multiple camp programs.
This is an exciting time for Recreation Unlimited. Summer and year round programs are growing and new camps, including a weeklong winter camp, are being created. Our new 20,000 sq. ft. “Life” Center, scheduled to open in fall 2008, will give us an opportunity to increase the number of campers served annually.
Thank you to all who have assisted Recreation Unlimited in some capacity as a donor or volunteer. We welcome you to visit Recreation Unlimited to see what we are achieving together. Please call us anytime at (740) 548-7006 to schedule a campus tour.
Wishing you the best in 2008,
