Dear Friends,
This is an exciting time for Recreation Unlimited. Our campus is continuing to grow with building renovation and new construction. In addition, we have seen the growth of our endowed scholarships in support of the Summer Residential and Year Round Respite Weekend camps. Currently, we have twelve endowed scholarships and hope to continue with adding more in 2013.
As I enter my sixteenth year as the Executive Director and CEO, I am humbled by the wonderful community support that we receive throughout the year. This support makes the dream of attending a Recreation Unlimited camp a reality for individuals with disabilities and health concerns. In addition, and as a secondary benefit, many of our families and caregivers have an opportunity for time away from the 24/7 care of an individual with a disability or health concern. Please note below a few comments of many that were received from camper families on what it means to them for their child to go to summer camp.
“I am thankful that my child has a place that he truly loves and is treated like the awesome kid that he is.”
“It gives my husband and I time to spend together. We can devote uninterupted time with our other son. It gives us time to recharge, so we are more patient when our son is home.”
“We are able to go away on vacation and it gives us freedom that we wouldn’t otherwise have. It makes a huge difference in our lives.”
“Time to NOT be a caregiver. It is the only extended time we ever get without our daughter. Thank you for being a lifeline!”
