Staff and Associate Alumni Spotlight #8

Caitlynn Wood
2022 & 2023, Seasonal Program Leader
2024-Current – Fulltime Camps Coordinator

Recreation Unlimited Experience:
“When I first started at Recreation Unlimited, I was going to school at BGSU in their Inclusive Early Childhood Education program. My goal was to teach in a general education classroom, but I would also be licensed to teach special education. Working at Recreation Unlimited influenced me in such a positive way that serving individuals with disabilities quickly became my passion after just one week of summer. I was an intervention specialist for one year when I was asked to work full-time at Recreation Unlimited. It was at this time that I realized that the camp setting is such a special way to serve this population. While in the classroom you can watch students break through barriers and make significant progress in different areas, at camp the barriers suddenly become nonexistent. I quickly learned that anything is possible for any person with any ability level, and that is not just true at camp. In my personal life, it has helped me try to become a better advocate to make the world around us more inclusive and accessible.”

Experience Impact:
“The connections and friendships that I have made here at Recreation Unlimited have made it more than just a job. It has become my favorite place to be with all of my favorite people.”

Accessible and Universal Track Ride(s)

“One of a Kind – Worldwide”

Recreation Unlimited is proud to announce that the Accessible and Universal Track Ride(s) has opened to our campers with disabilities on the night of July 17th at the annual Board, Family and Friends, Cookout and Fireworks Night at the Recreation Unlimited campus. This 2025 project is a 3,500 square foot Accessible and Inclusive Track Ride(s) that offers a unique ride (zip line), which is typically only an option for those without mobility challenges. The Track Ride(s) have two versions, for wheelchair and non-wheelchair users and can accommodate up to a 600lb weight limit.  The Track Ride(s) gives campers the thrill of something exciting and new, with perceived risk and speed, while offering a new experience of elevated motion play.

The Track Ride(s) will be conveniently located next to the Columbus Blue Jackets Sports Court and adjacent to the All-Life Foundation Accessible and Universal Play Area. “This is a one-of-a-kind program worldwide that will continue making the Recreation Unlimited campus accessible for those individuals with disabilities and mobility challenges”, said Paul Huttlin, Executive Director & CEO, Recreation Unlimited Foundation

Our goal was to raise $350,000 and we would like to thank our donors, All Life Foundation with the lead gift, with additional support from The Worthington Companies Foundation and The Columbus Foundation.   Thank you to Midstates Recreation, the creator of the Accessible and Universal Track Ride(s).

Recreation Unlimited’s mission is to serve youth and adults with physical and developmental disabilities and health concerns through year-round sports, recreation and education and is located on a 195-acre accessible campus in Delaware County.  The campus is pristine, first rate and equipped with cutting edge accessible program areas.
